Paediatric Care in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Children differ fundamentally from adults in their energy flow, physiology, and patterns of health and disease. As a result, the types of disorders seen in children, as well as their treatment approaches, require a distinct and specialised understanding.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is recognised that a child’s body and mind are in a continuous state of growth and transformation. Classical Chinese medicine describes developmental rhythms in which girls undergo significant changes every seven years, while boys develop in cycles of eight years. These stages reflect the natural maturation of Qi, blood, Yin, and Yang throughout childhood and adolescence.
Children are considered to possess relatively pure Yin and Yang, meaning their bodies respond quickly to internal and external influences. While this purity allows for rapid recovery, it also makes children more susceptible to imbalance when exposed to stress, improper diet, emotional strain, or recurrent illness.
Delicate Balance of Organ Function in Children
From a TCM perspective, children’s internal organs are still developing and therefore more delicate. In particular:
-
The Liver system is relatively strong and active, contributing to rapid growth, movement, and emotional expression
-
The Spleen system, which governs digestion, absorption, and energy production, is relatively weak and easily affected
For this reason, treatment must be carefully designed. Excessive suppression of Liver energy may hinder healthy development, while further weakening the Spleen can negatively impact digestion, immunity, and overall vitality. Paediatric treatment therefore requires experience, sensitivity, and precision.

Gentle and Individualised Treatment at Klinic
At Klinic, children are treated with great care and respect for their developmental needs. We primarily use gentle and non-invasive therapies, adapted to the child’s age, constitution, and condition. Treatment may include:
-
Paediatric Tuina therapy, a specialised form of massage tailored for children
-
Herbal medicine, carefully selected and dosed to support balance and growth
These therapies are commonly applied to support conditions such as:
-
Weak body constitution and low immunity
-
Chronic or recurrent asthma and respiratory issues
-
Digestive problems, including poor appetite or bloating
-
Night sweating and restless sleep
-
Poor concentration and learning difficulties
-
Hyperactivity and emotional instability
Supporting Healthy Growth and Development
The goal of paediatric TCM treatment is not only to relieve symptoms, but also to support healthy growth, strengthen resilience, and prevent future illness. By gently harmonising organ function and promoting balanced Qi flow, Chinese medicine helps children develop a stronger foundation for physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
At Klinic, treatments are always individualised, and parents are guided with practical advice on diet, lifestyle, and daily routines to support their child’s long-term health.
