Supporting balance and wellbeing through personalised care.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a therapeutic practice originating in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, single-use needles into carefully selected points on the body.

According to TCM theory, these points are located along pathways known as meridians, through which Qi circulates. Treatment aims to support a balanced flow of Qi and promote harmony between the body and mind.

From a contemporary perspective, acupuncture is also studied for its possible effects on the nervous system, pain processing and other physiological responses.

How Acupuncture Is Used at Klinic

At Klinic Amsterdam, acupuncture is practised as part of a personalised and integrative approach to healthcare. The selection of acupuncture points and the treatment plan are adapted to each patient’s symptoms, medical history, constitution and overall health.

Acupuncture may be used as supportive care for concerns such as pain, stress-related symptoms and certain functional or chronic complaints. When appropriate, it may be combined with Chinese herbal medicine, Tuina, lifestyle guidance or conventional medical care.

Acupuncture is intended to complement—not replace—necessary medical diagnosis and treatment.

Acupuncture and Integrative Care

At Klinic, acupuncture is often incorporated into personalised care for women’s health, menstrual and menopausal concerns, fertility support and general wellbeing.

Some patients also choose acupuncture alongside conventional fertility treatment, including IVF. Treatment is always adapted to the individual and does not guarantee pregnancy or a particular medical outcome.

Patients undergoing medical treatment, including fertility or cancer treatment, should keep their treating doctor informed about any complementary therapies they use.

What Does Research Suggest?

Acupuncture has been investigated for a variety of health concerns. Research suggests that it may be helpful for certain types of pain and some treatment-related symptoms, although findings and the strength of evidence vary depending on the condition.

Researchers continue to study how acupuncture may influence pain processing, the nervous system and other physiological responses. Acupuncture should therefore be presented as an individualised supportive therapy rather than as a guaranteed treatment for any medical condition.

Safety and Professional Care

When performed by a properly trained practitioner using sterile, single-use needles, acupuncture is generally considered safe. Temporary effects may include minor bleeding or bruising, tenderness, tiredness or light-headedness.

Before treatment, please tell your practitioner if you:

  • Are pregnant or may be pregnant

  • Use anticoagulants or have a bleeding disorder

  • Have a pacemaker or another implanted electrical device

  • Are receiving medical treatment or taking prescribed medication

  • Have a serious health condition or active infection

At Klinic, every treatment begins with an individual assessment so that your care can be adapted safely and appropriately.
